AFSC Iowa Immigrant Rights Program organized a Worker Solidarity Procession to call on Iowa's leaders to commit to worker protections. Around 60 cars with over 100 people caravanned from the Des Moines Art Center past Terrace Hill, the governor's mansion, to the State Capitol complex. Alejandro Murguia-Ortiz, an organizer with AFSC/Iowa JFON, addressed participants at both locations, telling the stories of his family members who work in meatpacking plants and have been infected with COVID-19. Erica Johnson, who directs AFSC Iowa, read a statement of demands to Iowa legislators, who reconvene their session next week.
